About The Seminar:

Histotripsy is a non-invasive, non-thermal, image-guided, ultrasound ablation method that uses extremely high acoustic pressure and microseconds long pulses to generate a cluster of microbubbles (bubble cloud) from pre-existing gas pockets in tissue. Rapid expansion and energetic collapse (i.e.,cavitation) of the formed microbubbles mechanically fragment the adjacent cells into subcellular debris. However, the required high acoustic pressure and reliance on real-time image guidance are some of histotripsy limitations, which can be overcome by combining histotripsy with acoustically active nanoparticles which is called as nanoparticle mediated histotripsy (NMH). This seminar will cover the story of developed nanoparticles with the specific attention on nanocones (NCs) as new generation histotripsy agent that addresses all the limitations of previous generation.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Yuksel Durmaz graduated from Yildiz Technical University, Department of Chemistry in 2003. She then received her MSc and PhD degree in Istanbul Technical University, Polymer Science and Technology Program. Following 4 years, she worked as postdoctoral research fellow in Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Michigan. In 2015, she joined in Istanbul Medipol University, School of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Biomedical Engineering and has been directing a research laboratory namely Innovative Polymer Nanotherapeutics Research Laboratory (IPONT Lab).
